And then comes the question: what do I actually ask?
It is a reasonable thing to wonder. And the honest answer is that the question you bring shapes everything that follows. A good question opens doors. A vague one leaves you standing in a hallway.

The question that waits for a verdict
The most common trap is the yes-or-no question. Will I get the job? Is this relationship going to work out? Should I move?
There is nothing wrong with wanting clarity on those things. But tarot does not deal in verdicts. It deals in insight. And a question that can only be answered with yes or no leaves almost no room for the cards to do what they do best.
The fix is usually simple. Instead of "will I get the job", try "what do I need to know as I go into this process?" Instead of "should I move", try "what would help me make this decision with more confidence?" You are not changing the subject. You are just opening a window instead of knocking on a locked door.
The question that is really about fear
Sometimes a question sounds specific but is actually just anxiety wearing a disguise. "Is something going to go wrong?" "Am I making a mistake?" "What if this does not work out?"
These questions are understandable. Fear is a completely human thing to bring to a reading. But questions rooted in fear tend to keep your attention on the worst-case scenario, rather than opening up another way of looking at it.
Try turning it around. Instead of asking what might go wrong, ask what you need right now. Instead of bracing for the answer, get curious about it. "What is this situation asking of me?" lands in a very different place than "is this going to be okay?"
Curiosity and fear can look at the same situation. Only one of them sees clearly.
The question that is too big to answer
"What should I do with my life?" is a beautiful question. It is also almost impossible to read.
Not because the question lacks depth, but because a question that vast has nowhere to land. The Celtic Cross has ten cards, not a hundred. Give it something to work with.
Try narrowing it down to what is actually alive for you right now. Not your whole life, but this chapter. Not everything, but the thing that is keeping you up at night. "What does this next step need from me?" is answerable. "What is my purpose?" will keep you searching long after the reading is over.
Small questions, asked well, often lead to the biggest answers.
What a good question looks like
A good question is open. It invites insight rather than waiting for a verdict. It is about you, your situation, your next step. It comes from a place of genuine curiosity, even if that curiosity is sitting right next to a fair amount of uncertainty.
It does not have to be perfectly worded. It does not have to be tidy. Some of the most powerful readings start with something like "I do not really know how to ask this, but something feels off and I want to understand it better."
That is enough. More than enough, actually.
